Only in America

Not going to lie, I am easily amused. I’ve been known to nearly fall off furniture after seeing something funny (most recently, this America’s Got Talent audition almost made me topple off my couch). But while perusing Facebook during lunch, I found the following video posted by my friend Jane. Watch it. Now.

I know, right?

So clearly, I had to do some investigative work to find out more about this incredible (creepy? adorable? terrifying? hilarious?) ad campaign.

Reports the Today show:

Evian’s worldwide director of brand Michael Aidan told The Mail of London that the firm was trying to sell drinkers a “dream.”

“In the majority of countries in recent years, our communication has been very fact-based,” Aidan told the newspaper. “But consumers expect more from a big brand: emotion, dream. This is what we want to achieve. Hence this breakaway and back-to-roots campaign.”

Evian decided to test it out online before buying airtime. The YouTube video has already garnered more than 2.7 million hits (at the time of this post) since it was posted July 2. So Evian, you needn’t worry about popularity.

You can also learn more about the commercial at the Evian Live Young site, where you can watch a “Making of” video. Even if you thought the skating babies were creepy, at least watch the “Making of” because the babies used in the commercial are freakin’ adorable.

But what I think works best is that Evian is appealing to all of my favorite things (cute babies, skating and the Sugerhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”). It’s like they KNOW me.

And now I am going to go buy some Evian.
